RISE OF THE GUARDIANS + Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Edition Giveaway

March 11, 2013 By Liz 285 Comments

Wow!  I’m not sure how long it had been since I last saw a digitally animated film, but I was completely enchanted right from the start of RISE OF THE GUARDIANS. The animation was exquisite and the story was endearing.

Rise of the Guardians Blu-ray DVD

RISE OF THE GUARDIANS (from the creators of HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON) brings together the beloved imagined characters from childhood – Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Sandman and Jack Frost in an effort to protect children’s hopes and dreams from the evil Pitch Black, who is trying to spread fear throughout the world.

Having not read the book series on which the movie is based, I was initially shocked at the inclusion of Jack Frost in the Avengers-like team. However, I was quickly won over with his mischievous, playful style of creating winter fun for children, and with his quest to figure out why he was chosen to be a guardian.

I was completely charmed with the magical setting and impish and and adorable cast of background creatures. The North Pole elves were bumbly, goofy and delightfully inept, and the baby tooth fairies were beyond precious.

I thought the overall voice talent was excellent, my only criticism being that Jack’s voice was far too adult-sounding for his boyish appearance.

A couple of mildly scary scenes involving Pitch are probably what makes it a PG rather than a G-rated film, but I think the whole family will enjoy it.

Before watching the movie, the most I expected from it was to be able to put it on the “meh” list, so I’m still a little bit shocked at how much I liked it. Actually, I’m totally shocked. I wish my kids were still little, because this would be the perfect movie to put into their Easter baskets. (The fact it comes bundled with 2 hopping eggs doesn’t hurt either.)
