Before I started bodybuilding, I was always very self-conscious of my body. People would tease me in high school, calling me anorexic. Then after college, I realized I’d have to make an effort to work out to stay trim – there would be no more effortless slenderness from walking miles on campus every day. I started to notice things about my body I had been too busy to notice before. I carried my extra weight in my thighs and butt. I had stretch marks. I had cellulite.

Those things are all still true, but now that I’ve found a sport I love, I also love and respect my body more. While I still tend to dress fairly modestly most of the time, I now don’t mind showing off my curves sometimes.

I was given the opportunity to try a piece from The Kewl Shop (the go-to place for bodycon and bandage dresses) for free. I picked out this two-piece white number, knowing it’d be perfect to wear on a night out at a club!

High waist two piece bandage dress

Get it here.

I got it in an extra small, and while I think a small would have also worked, I do like the way the extra small looks. I wore the skirt for a night out in Raleigh, including a birthday celebration and a couple of drinks at a secret speakeasy behind a bookcase…which was just as cool as it sounds. (I haven’t worn the top out yet – I’ll have to work up the nerve since it shows quite a lot of skin!)

Get the look: gray crop top (similar), gold lariat necklace (similar), gold chandelier earrings (similar).

Despite its painted-on appearance, this skirt was incredibly comfortable to wear all night. The fabric is thick and therefore smooths out any lumps or bumps, and it zips up in the back so you can more easily pour yourself in and out of it. It felt like I was wearing presentable Spanx! I got lots of compliments on my outfit all night long, even from strangers, but especially from my date. 🙂

I wore the skirt with a gray crop top (similar) and black strappy sandals (exact).

The Kewl Shop has tons of dress styles to choose from – some conservative and others daring – so they’re sure to have something you’ll like. They even have a great selection of trendy heels, which I’ve been drooling over and contemplating since I picked out this dress. I have my eye on these ones – what do you think, should I bite the bullet?

Have you ever worn a bandage dress?
