Grab your fork, bring your appetite, and put on a pair of stretchy pants because I want to take you to some incredible Vicksburg, Mississippi restaurants. The eats are mighty fine along the Mighty Miss.

I recently ate my way through the following six Vicksburg restaurants, and I’ve been raving about every single one of them ever since. Everything was good. EVERYTHING.

Vicksburg Mississippi restaurants

The Tomato Place

What started as a roadside fruit and vegetable stand has grown into a favorite pit stop for hungry diners along Highway 61 South.

Just as the name implies, fresh, real tomatoes can be found at The Tomato Place year-round, both in the market and on the menu .

Head through these unassuming but welcoming doors and place your order at the counter.

I knew exactly what I wanted – one of their famous BLT’s made with those killer tomatoes. And man, was it ever good.

Best BLT I’ve ever had in my life. By far.

Currently, outside dining is the only “eat here” option but your meal will be brought to the table of your choice.

Also not to be missed are the fresh fruit smoothies available in dozens of flavors.

Walnut Hills

If you love southern homestyle cooking (and who doesn’t?) Walnut Hills is where it’s at. And as far as what to order?

Two words: fried chicken.

I could leave it right there, and you’d know everything you need to know to leave with the happiest of bellies because this world-famous Walnut Hills restaurant makes the best fried chicken I’ve ever had.

And the sides were incredible too. The smothered squash, green beans, okra, and coleslaw were everything southern homestyle cooking should be.

Y’all, I’ve got nothin’ but raves for the cooking at this long-time favorite “round table” restaurant in downtown Vicksburg.

Café Anchuca

Café Anchuca, inside Anchuca, the stunning antebellum mansion and inn (just down the street from the Duff Green Mansion) is a must-visit for both the food and historical ambiance.

Anchuca Mansion

We were able to sit in one of the mansion’s elegant parlors while we dined—a genuine treat.

Dinner was scrumptious, from the mixed salad to the chicken piccata. I didn’t want to stop eating, even when I was full.

Whether you choose to visit for one of the daily home tours or for dinner, you won’t be disappointed with a trip to Anchuca.

10 South Rooftop Bar & Grill

If you’re looking for dinner with a view, 10 South is the best spot in town. Located on the 10th floor of the First National Building, this relaxed and casual eatery serves up southern food with a twist.

10 South

Enormous windows (which can be opened to let in a breeze) overlook the Mississippi River, Yazoo Diversion Canal and historic downtown Vicksburg. Add in a sunset and you’ve got the makings of a perfect evening.

There’s no going hungry while you peruse the menu. The complimentary seasoned pretzels and mustard dip are crazy good. The pretzels remind me a lot of Dot’s Pretzels— so addictive!

If you’re the appetizer kind, go for the fried green tomatoes—the best I’ve ever had. The breading was crisp and didn’t slide off the tomatoes and the flavor was sensational. The tomatoes are served with a spicy crawfish tomato gravy for dipping.

For my meal, I chose a burger with a side of grilled green beans and let me tell you, that burger meat was fresh, fresh, fresh. It had the most delicious peppery seasoning, melted Pepper Jack cheese and bacon, of course.

Solly’s Hot Tamales

When I found out Mississippi tamales were a thing (mostly in the Delta), I knew I had to try one so I popped into Solly’s for a taste and I recommend you do too.

Solly’s Tamales are sold in threes, by the half-dozen or full dozen and since they’re smaller than Latin-style tamales, you’ll want more than one.

Solly's Hot Tamales

The seasoned beef filling has a thin layer of cornmeal and has just enough “heat” to tickle but not hurt. They’re absolutely delicious! Grab napkins; they can be messy!

Main Street Market

On a whim, I decided to stop at this family-run cafe before hitting the road for home, and I’m so glad I did. It’s full of local character(s) who all seem to know each other, giving the restaurant a distinctly warm and friendly vibe.

And the food is superb!

It may not look like much from the outside, but it’s a goodie!

The from-scratch menu is based on what’s fresh and locally available so it changes daily and always features a special.

I ordered the most delicious blackened chicken salad plate served with the soup of the day. (Soup or salad comes with everything on the menu.)

Although I only had time to visit a handful of Vicksburg Mississippi restaurants, I loved every single bite at the above-mentioned eateries and look forward to exploring more on a future visit.
