The (Not So) Secret Life of My Kitten

Confession #1: If you consider your pets your children or part of the family, I’ve laughed at you and I’ve probably rolled my eyes as well.

Confession #2: I’m now one of you.

A couple of months ago, I adopted a kitten, and I am so head over heels in love with her, I can hardly stand it. She’s my little fluffy baby, and I absolutely adore her.

I named her Pinot.

Pinot - my kitty

This was her first photo. Blurry, but I love it anyhow!

And she’s all kitten. All.of.the.kitten.

She wakes me up in the morning by either pouncing on my feet, walking on my back or tunneling under the covers, and then she’s rarin’ to go! She zips around like she’s in a pinball machine!

Did you know there are two kinds of cats: tree dwellers and bush dwellers? Guess which one Pinot is… sigh.

A cat sitting in front of a mirror

She just keeps going and going until she has nothing left, and when I say nothing left, I mean it. One minute she’ll be ping-ponging across the floor, and the next she’s sound asleep no matter where she is.

Pinot sleeping by window

But when she wakes up, she’s adventuring once again.

Pinot peeking

No matter how times I put her down on the floor, she jumps back up for further investigation.

Pinot on kitchen counter

And anything that has room for her to fit inside, she’ll fit inside.

Pinot in water bottle box

Pinot in purse

The only thing that slowed her down a bit was when she got spayed and had to wear an Elizabethan collar for a couple weeks. She was such a sad baby.

Pinot after spaying

But she still managed to get into trouble.

Pinot with kale

She’s the busiest, nosiest, climb-iest, most energetic little kitten I could have ever imagined, but I love her with all of my heart.

And she loves me too.

Pinot cuddles

I can’t imagine not having my little Pinot, and I’m so happy I adopted her.

Can you believe out of the 3.4 million-ish cats taken in by animal shelters in the U.S. each year, only half of them are adopted? It breaks my heart, and it’s the reason I’m partnering with Purina Cat Chow in support of their “Nutrition to Build Better Lives” program.

Since 2013, Purina Cat Chow has donated more than 845,000 in food, supplies and renovations to improve the rescue, nutrition and adoption of shelter cats. The aim is to deliver great nutrition to the cats in the care of these wonderful animal welfare organizations to help them get healthy and ready for their forever homes.

How can you help?

It’s simple. During the month of July, for each bag of Purina Cat Chow you buy, a meal will be donated to a cat in need through Rescue Bank*, and the goal is to reach five million meals. Buy a small bag, buy a big bag. Any size triggers the donation!

Buying a bag of cat food is such a simple act, and it helps not just one cat, but the entire cat community-at-large. If you don’t have a cat and don’t need to buy cat food, remember you can still buy it and give the bag to your local shelter. They’ll be very grateful; trust me!

*Rescue Bank is a non-profit organization that operates on a national food bank model to collect and distribute high-quality pet food and other supplies to a network of pre-qualified animal welfare organizations throughout the United States. These organizations are able to use the savings from their food budgets for critical veterinary care to increase the adoption of healthy pets.

Until an ancient, one-eyed (I think a raccoon or something got him, the vet said it can’t be fixed) gray cat made his way into our lives and home. It took a bit to get him to trust us, but he’s all family now. He’s laying on my feet as I type. 🙂 He’s not energetic or playful, but he does like to lay in the son and he can catch a lizard (found out the hard way, ew). 🙂 We love him so. Love how you started this post by sharing some confessions. lol I can definitely relate with you on that. I love your cat’s pictures especially the one where she looks engulfed by that plastic bag. Looks like she was up to no good and just got caught red handed. lol Must be a fun and interesting experience having a cat around. I’m more used to having dogs and birds around the house. Great post! I admire you for adopting a pet and giving them a home where they’re loved and cared for…properly. Keep it up! Looking forward to more of your adventures.

Such a cute little kitty, I would have a house full of cats if I had the space and the money. I have two cats and that will have to do 🙂

Aww!! I love and miss those crazy kitten days. My furniture doesn’t but I sure do! We have had lots of cats in our lives and those kitten years were some of our favourite times of our lives. Makes me want another one 🙂

I love the the phooto of her hugging you. Our cat thinks she is a dog and our dog thinks she is a person. totally get that they are part of the family.

    She is simply adorable!!!

We recently lost a kitten after loving him (and having him love us) for 11 years. He passed away too early, but we’re trying to only remember the good moments. So instead of crying (which eventually stopped after a month) we’re now looking at pictures and videos of him.
Enjoy every moment with her. I recently heard someone say that “Not every human knows how to love animals, but every animal knows how to love a human” . <3

We cannot get a cat because there are allergies in our family, but I’ve always thought cats were adorable and kittens that always made me laugh.

Pinot is soooo cute! I’ve only ever had dogs, but I think when they pass, we’ll consider getting a cat, rescue of course. They are so much lower maintenance than dogs!

We have had dogs in the past but deep down I am a cat person. They are definitely lower maintenance but they still have such fun little personalities.

Adorable and love that name. Kittens are quite the adventure that’s for sure. Our cat is getting up there in age but somehow still manages to find flowers and plants to nibble on.

We said good-bye to our last cat over a year ago. She was only fifteen however her older sister (no relation just house mates) lived to twenty-two years. They let us live in our house with them but rarely let us sleep through the night. Buggers!
