Sooo…last year’s New Year’s Resolution was a major bust. Goal #1: I said I was going to read one book a month for the whole year, but I ended up only reading maybe 4 or 5 books. Blew it. The books I did read, however, were highly enjoyable and included Amy Poehler’s Yes Please and The Art of Racing in the Rain (great if you’re a pet lover!).
I’m setting the same reading goal for this year and hope to knock it out of the park this time. My brother got me this book (it’s by J.K. Rowling under a male alias!) and it’s already hooked me, so I’m off to a good start. I love a good crime novel.
Happily, that’s the only 2016 resolution that I failed miserably at. Last year’s other two goals were fitness-related, and for the most part I accomplished both!
Goal #2: Place in the top 10 at my first pro competition. I placed tenth. Technically I met my goal but I had secretly hoped to do better and place in the top 5, so I feel like somehow I didn’t do what I set out to do.
Goal #3: Put on a few pounds of quality muscle. Now this goal I achieved! I currently weigh 140 lbs., which is the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life! Of course I’ve gained some fat (comes with the territory of not being on a competition diet), but I spent a lot of time this year focusing on building my legs and I can see that they’ve gained some significant muscle.
Since I’m not happy with how goal #2 (my competition placing) turned out last year, I’m going to dust myself off and try, try again this year. And that means working on a re-do of goal #3 (build more muscle) as well. To do that, I have to be consistent in going to the gym!
Speaking of the gym, if you set fitness goals for yourself this year but need a little kickstart, here’s a tip: from now through January 11, Planet Fitness membership is just $1. Yup, only a one dollar enrollment fee. After that, it’s just $10 per month.
