LOOK AT THESE BEANS!

LOOK AT THEM!

DIY Paw Print Ornament | eatmovemake.com

Whenever my cat’s bean toes are showing, I snap a photo because it’s so damn cute. So I thought I’d take it one step further and make a paw print ornament so I can remember how cute she is for all my Christmases to come!

If you think Mony’s cute and want to see some more pics and a video, check out this recent post about a cat toy (which would be a perfect stocking stuffer for your kitty).

I chose to use salt dough for my paw print ornament. It’s really easy to make and will make four good-sized ornaments.

Salt Dough Paw Print Ornament

1 cup flour
1 cup salt (just your usual iodized table salt)
1/2 cup water
Glass to cut out the ornament shape
Straw to punch a hole for the ribbon
Aluminum foil
Baking sheet
Festive ribbon

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees F
  2. Mix flour, salt, and water in a bowl. The result should be a Play-Doh-like consistency – you may need to add a little water if the dough is crumbly.
  3. On a floured surface, pat the dough into an even layer about 1/2 thick. Cut out ornament shapes with a glass.
  4. Press your pet’s paw into the ornament, then punch a hole at the top with a straw.
  5. Place ornaments on baking sheet covered with foil and bake for 2-3 hours (until dry).
  6. If necessary, file the edges to smooth them out. I used a nail file.
  7. Add ribbon, and hang!

I guess it is the equivalent of childrens foot prints or even handprints from your grandkids. Enjoy the project.

This ornament idea is too cute and it is a great way to add pets in the holiday festivities. I know I can do this with my kitten, but getting my cat to do this will be tricky.

This is a really cute idea! I have some of these but hang it high enough so that my pets can’t get to them – the salt can make them sick according to my vet.

Love the print that is so neat I would even do one for my daughters fingers or something or do one for the entire family as a tradition for the whole family.

I should do this with my dog. He’s like a four legged child to our family, so I think we need to commemorate him.

This would be fun to do with any pet! I wonder if I could get my dog to sit still long enough to do this with him!

This is such a clever idea! We made handprint ornaments with our kids when they were little, but I never thought to make a paw print for my Daisy! My mom loves her fur babies, too, and would love having an ornament like this to remember them.

That is such a cute idea. I wanted to make something like this with my Milo, but he’s such a spaz that he won’t sit still long enough for me to do it.

We recently moved, and there’s a cat here that apparently came with the house. He’s obviously very familiar with the house, and any time we open the door he just struts right in and gets comfortable! It’s hilarious, because for a country mouser, he’s very docile. I’ll have to try this with him– my kids would get a kick out of making him an ornament!
