We’re celebrating the release of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle with Jumanji cupcakes! I was inspired to make them after I returned from my Sony-sponsored press trip for the movie.

Aren’t they fun? The best part is you can use your favorite homemade or store-bought cupcake and frosting recipe to make them, but you’ll want white frosting and a chocolate cake mix.

To color the frosting, I used this gel paste, and a little goes a long way, so add it by the toothpick-ful until you’re happy with the color. I don’t recommend food coloring because it will never get that intense shade of jungle green that’s so perfect for these. It also has a tendency to make the frosting too runny.

Once my frosting was my desired shade of green (that’s up to you) I used a grass decorating tip to make “grass” all over the cupcake top. Squeeze the pastry bag briefly to let out frosting strands and when you stop the pressure lift up to “cut” the grass.

There’s definitely a learning curve to it (see the one in the back that looks more like spaghetti strands), so expect and accept some mistakes. If you totally mess up, scrape off the frosting and try again.

Tip: Your hand on the piping bag can warm the frosting so if you find your grass is looking a little too fluid, you can chill your frosting for a few minutes to cool it back down. You can pipe new grass right over your mistakes!

Pssst, perfection is overrated, but fun is NOT, so just have fun!

Once the frosting is on, add any kind of cake topper you’d like!

I also had some Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle goodies from my press trip, so I’ll be putting those on my party table with my Jumanji cupcakes. There’s no wrong way to decorate!
