I’ve been working with Fisher Nuts to share great recipes and ideas on cooking with nuts. Remember the Almond Heart Cookies I made late last year? They were the most beautiful cookies, but that’s to be expected from Chef Alex Guarnaschelli, who created that recipe.
Now that we’re in the warm weather months, I was going to make a salad or combine nuts with fresh veggies or fruit. But then I got a taste and a craving…
You know how sometimes you try a new taste, and you can’t stop thinking about it? Well, that’s what happened to me when I had an event breakfast where they served the most delicious bacon delicacy.
It involved bacon and maple syrup and brown sugar and pecans. Yes, pecans! I never, ever would have thought to sprinkle pecans (or any nuts) on bacon, but now that I’ve tasted it, I can’t get enough.
So I made my own version of it at home using Fisher Nuts Pecan Halves, and baby, this is good!
Maple Roasted Bacon with Glazed Pecans
1/2 cup Fisher Nuts Pecan Halves, chopped
1 pkg thick-cut bacon (thick-cut is way better for this recipe, trust me)
1 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup brown sugar
(That’s all you need, and the amounts aren’t all that important. Just play around and do whatever seems right to you.)
1. Chop the pecan halves; set aside.
2. Preheat oven to 250-275 degrees. Now you want to cover the bacon strips in maple syrup, so you can either dredge them by dunking, or you can lay the bacon strips on a rimmed cookie sheet and add the maple syrup with a brush. But in the end, all those maple-soused bacon strips need to get on that cookie sheet.
3. Sprinkle little pinches of brown sugar atop the syrup covered bacon strips, and finally for the piece de resistance, sprinkle on those delicious chopped pecans. Feel free to brush a touch more maple syrup over everything if you’d like.
4. Bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until bacon reaches desired doneness.
It wasn’t my original idea, but I figured out how to do it at home, so when you take a bite, blow me a kiss, because you will love me for it.
