This past weekend, I went to my first Southern Women’s Show with Food Lion in Raleigh and I met Taylor Hicks, one of the most popular American Idol winners ever! And yep, I voted for him every week.

And y’all… he’s still got it – in looks and talent.

Food Lion had a large interactive booth at the Southern Women’s Show and Taylor Hicks was there to cook his famous jalapeno poppers recipe for the crowd. I had a chance to chat with him for a few minutes before he took the stage.

He told me that he chose the jalapeno poppers because North Carolina is a BBQ mecca and since his version is stuffed with pulled pork, it seemed apropos to present those. I think he chose wisely!

When I asked him if he had any tips for home cooks, he answered with “patience and love… because it takes patience and love to make a great dish”. I totally agree with him on that.

As for what he loves about Food Lion, he told me that when he tours he travels through a lot of the southeastern states. They make many “bus calls” at Food Lion to do their grocery shopping. They load up on fresh fruits and veggies that are so important to Taylor and the band and always available at Food Lion for an affordable price.

I know that’s true for me too. Food Lion helps me nourish my family daily with fresh food at great prices!

And after tasting Taylor Hicks’ jalapeno poppers, I went to Food Lion to get the ingredients to make some at home! (I’m dead serious.) Y’all know I love me some spicy!

But before I went home, Taylor treated the crowd to a couple of songs and man, he can sing!

And he can get down on a harmonica too!

I’m so glad to have spent my afternoon with Food Lion and Taylor Hicks at the Southern Women’s Show.
