In a dinner rut? Bake a Taco Crescent Ring. It’s a fun way to jazz up taco night!

Seasoned meat fills a buttery, flaky crescent roll crust and bakes to a delicious golden brown in just 30 minutes. A hot and savory crescent roll taco ring makes a great appetizer or a quick and easy meal.

Ingredient Notes

ingredients for taco crescent ring
  • Crescent Roll Dough – Any crescent roll brand will work, but I like Immaculate Baking and Annie’s Organic the best. They have a lightly salted buttery flavor that works perfectly in savory dishes like this crescent roll taco ring. But if you’re a traditionalist and want to make a Pillsbury taco ring, go for it. Pillsbury is a bit on the sweet side (in my opinion). That being said, it’s easy to find, so my lazy self often goes that route.
  • Ground beef – I typically use an 80/20 or 85/15 blend.
  • Taco mix – Mild or spicy, your choice.
  • Salsa – Mild or spicy, your choice.
  • Shredded cheese – Cheddar works perfectly for this taco ring recipe.
  • Onion – Yellow onions are great all-purpose onions, so that’s what I use.

Tips for Using Crescent Roll Dough

Crescent roll dough can be a bit fussy, but following these simple tips will make it a little easier to work with the dough to form a beautiful taco crescent roll ring.

  • The most important thing is that the dough is cold before getting started, so avoid taking it out of the refrigerator until you’re ready to work with it. Crescent roll dough tends to be very sticky.
  • Gently separate the triangles of dough along the perforation marks. It tears easily.
  • Try to keep the dough triangles uniformly shaped. (That being said, don’t worry if you have a few wonky triangles. It’s practically unavoidable.)
  • Line your pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

How to Make a Taco Ring with Crescent Rolls

Step 1: Brown ground beef and saute onions together; drain. Add taco seasoning mix, salsa and cheese; mix well. Set aside.

Step 2: On parchment paper-lined pizza pan, arrange crescent rolls into a circle leaving center of pan open. Overlap crescent rolls with points of triangles hanging on outside of pan.

(You may have a few wonky sections and that’s ok. I almost always do, but follow these tips to minimize it. It all works out in the end.)

Step 3: Mound beef mixture onto ring of crescent rolls. Fold points over beef mixture onto center of pan, pressing into inside edge of dough.

Step 4: Bake until golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 5: Serve with your choice of toppings. I like to fill the center with chopped lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos and sometimes black olives.

Recipe FAQ

What can I use instead of ground beef?

You could also make a crescent taco ring with ground turkey or ground chicken.

Can I make the taco ring spicier?

Sure! Add a dash of hot sauce and/or use spicy taco mix and spicy salsa.

How do you store leftover taco ring crescent rolls?

I’ll be honest; I don’t think leftover crescent rolls reheat well. They tend to get gummy and smushy. BUT the taco meat inside the crescent rolls is well worth saving for a taco salad or these Mexi-Mac Tostada Bowls.
