I’m super partial to Ghirardelli brownie mixes so that’s what I always use but honestly, you can use any brownie mix in a box (not a pouch).
Look for the XL Symphony Toffee Bar – 4.25 oz. It has a tan wrapper with blue lettering.
Use a plastic disposable knife to cut brownies. Try it; it works beautifully!

Can you freeze?
Liz says
I haven’t frozen them myself so I can’t tell you how that would work out. Before you freeze the whole batch, maybe you could freeze a single brownie and then see how well it thaws out.

Have you ever tried subbing the oil with applesauce?
Liz says
Not in this exact recipe but yes, I’ve done that many times in the past with success!
Chelle says
I made this today and it was good! Simple and easy to make. I would suggest maybe pouring half of the mixture, placing the candy bars in the pan and pouring the remaining batter over it. I couldn’t “push” it down in my 9X9 pan so my bars sat on top.
Liz says
That would absolutely work! I do that sometimes too! So glad you enjoyed them. They’re decadently delicious!
